PLACES TO VISIT IN KOH SAMUI

Fisherman’s Village is a historical part of Bophut, with rustic-style buildings housing boutique stores and trendy restaurants lining the narrow Beach Road. Every second day, the whole area becomes the site of the Fisherman’s Village Walking Street market.

Highlights: Fireshow in front of Cocotam’s restaurant every evening, night market on Mondays/Wednesdays/Fridays/Sundays

Chaweng is Koh Samui’s busiest and biggest place, which has sprung up around one of the island’s finest beaches. Chaweng’s nightlife is streets ahead of anywhere else on Samui in terms of choice.

Highlights: Central Festival Samui Mall, night market on Thursdays/Fridays/Saturdays

Lamai is south-east part of the island, its beach is Koh Samui’s second most popular beach after Chaweng. With its long beach with fine white sand, beach-side restaurants and usually calm and clear waters, Lamai beach is a great place to relax in the sun and do some swimming, dining and shopping.

Highlights: Grandfather & Grandmother Rock, Crystal Bay Beach

Lipa Noi or Tong Yang is situated in a less lived-in part of the island. The green setting of the area is very diverse: coconut palm trees, and in addition to them quite a few of plumerias, coniferous trees and shrubs. Its mountain boasts one of the main attractions on the island – The Magic garden.

Highlights: Magic Garden · BANG RAK

The main attraction around here is the Big Buddha temple (Wat Phra Yai). The 12 meter high golden Buddha can be spotted from several locations around the island and sure is impressive. Remember to dress appropriately and cover your shoulders and knees as the temple is a sacred place.

Highlights: Big Buddha, Wat Plai Laem · NATHON

Halfway down Samui’s west coast, Nathon is quiet and offers lots of great backdrops for photos. There is a lot of waterfront eating available with plenty of cuisine choices.

Highlights: Night market on Tuesdays
